After starting a dance music blog with the idea of starting a business last year i worked out many ways to get followers on instagram which i am going to run through. Unfortunately the blog didn’t take off but i learnt many lessons in many areas which i will hopefully be writing an article on soon.
How to Get Followers on Instagram 1 – Make sure your name is relevant to your target area.
This may sound obvious but if you want people to find you then your Instagram name needs to be relevant. If you have an instagram page about great cakes then a name of “GreatCakes” has a higher probability of being found when someone searches cakes than an instagram page called “NothingToDoWithAbove”
How to Get Followers on Instagram 2 – Follow your competitions followers.
Everyone who starts a website normally has competition and there is a chance your competition are doing better than you, possibly because they have been in the game longer than you or any number of reasons. You can go to your competitions Instagram page and then view followers. You can then easily click through and follow people that follow your rivals page. If your Instagram page has a relevant name and great content people will often check out your page and follow you back. Please note that Instagram limits the amount of people you can follow in a certain amount of time and there is also a max number of users you can follow which is around 7000 so if you hit either of these limits you either need to wait awhile or unfollow people who haven’t followed you back.
How to Get Followers on Instagram 3 – Search for hashtags relevant to your page.
So this comes in two stages. If your doing a page about Dance music you may search for hash tags such as #DanceMusic, #EDM, #party, #deephouse, #nightclubs. Try and think outside the box here and keep a track of what has the highest number of photos associated to them. Often just by searching you will get ideas to other popular hash tags that you may not have thought of. Now you can view the posts that people assign to these hash tags and like their photos or comment on them with something that isn’t spam. This may cause intrigue in the other user to check your profile and follow you back.
How to Get Followers on Instagram 4 – Use common hashtags on your photos.
Using the hash tags that were uncovered to be popular in the previous paragraph, add them and lots of them to your photos. If you don’t want your photos to look like they are completely covered in hash tags and that you are desperate for follows you can either write a long comment or write a small comment and then put a few carriage returns or full stops (apparently 5) underneath it before doing your hash tags. Your hash tags will be hidden by the “… more” button and not everyone will see them but they will still have the same affect of being attached to your photo. For example see the below photo, it looks like it doesn’t have any hashtags but if you view it here it is a different story.

How to Get Followers on Instagram 5 – Make friends with other pages.
This applies more so when you are doing well or if a page has a similar number of followers to you or even if you know a friend who is doing well. Message them and offer to share one of their posts with their @name tagged in it if they will do the same back to you. You will be surprised how many people will take you up on this offer. How to Get Followers on Instagram 5 – Being good looking and flaunting it.
This applies more to people who are trying to be models and less so businesses. I was chatting with a girl in a club one night who said she had 10,000 followers and i asked her how did you get so many. The girl was already pretty so guys are undeniably going to follow her anyway but she did say that bum photos definitely helped. Either way, if you are a business, the old saying that “sex sells” could apply by using a hot guy or girl in your advertising campaign.
How to Get Followers on Instagram 6 – Buy followers.
If all else fails then if you google “buy Instagram followers” there are a number of websites that come up. This may not apply to Instagram but i have heard of people that bought fake followers on Facebook and Soundcloud losing half their following overnight when the companies realised the following profiles were fake. (I do not take any responsibility if you lose your money or followers doing so!)

Hopefully some of the above will work for you but whatever you do, do not spam people, its annoying and you may end up getting yourself blocked and in some countries is illegal (you have been warned).
